College Graduation for Domenica Scholarship Class of 2019

Graduation season offers us a chance to check in with former Domenica Scholars. Every year, we see how students have leveraged the high-quality high school education they received through the Domenica Scholarship into great achievements in college and beyond.
Here are four examples from the scholarship class of 2019, now the college class of 2023.

80 Volunteers, 7 Sites, 1 Great Day

Spring into Action 2023 was a great success! We asked volunteers to choose one or two words to describe their experience. “Fun” was the first word many of them came up with. Next were “fulfilling,” “meaningful,” and similar terms to describe how good it feels to help others.

Cathedral Kitchen Serves Up Hope

It was just like an Iron Chef episode! As Elena Piperno, Domenica Foundation director, arrived to help judge the Cathedral Kitchen (CK) pasta competition, students in the culinary arts training program were putting finishing touches on their dishes.

Making Space for Camden Youth

A special feature of LUCY Outreach’s new youth center is “the steps,” shown here populated by LUCY alums and Executive Director Kristin Prinn. In the early days, LUCY youth met on the steps of St. Joseph Pro Cathedral School. Now LUCY has a state-of-the-art facility—but participants and staff remember their roots by gathering on (now indoor!) steps designed to welcome and inspire.
We were so proud to help LUCY celebrate its grand opening on October 20! Over 300 people came to celebrate this milestone—participants, past participants, staff, community members, and, of course, funders like us.

Phillies Outing a Hit with Domenica Scholars

What an awesome day we had with Domenica Scholars at the Phillies game on September 24! As you can see, it was a perfect fall day for baseball. The nearly 30 scholars who accepted our invitation had a marvelous time.

Kids + Books + Art, Part 2

With support from the Domenica Foundation, children from Catholic Partnership Schools are making free books available in their Camden neighborhoods. Above, Tina stands next to the Sacred Heart School book ark, which she helped design.

Over the summer, children from Catholic Partnership Schools designed and painted book arks that were delivered to them last spring. Last week, we joined them in installing their book arks on sidewalks near their schools.

Fighting Hunger in Cramer Hill, Camden

The Domenica Foundation’s newest grantee is the SSJ Neighborhood Center in the Cramer Hill section of Camden. We’ve granted $10,000 to fund the center’s monthly food pantry for a year.
