Spring into Action 2024 was a smashing success! Our annual volunteer event brought together 120 people last Saturday to participate in service projects at eight community partner sites.
We were pleased to welcome two groups of teens from community partners Guadalupe Family Services and Camden Catholic High School. Two local businesses also sent groups: The Michaels Organization and TD Bank.
Other participants included families, friend groups, and individuals who like to have fun while making a difference for underserved populations in Camden.
“It was great to see so many people bring their children to the event,” said Elena Piperno, director of the Domenica Foundation. “We hope service becomes a part of their family traditions, just as it did for my brothers and me growing up.”
We’re impressed by how much the volunteers accomplished!
- Cathedral Kitchen: Making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and assembling hundreds of placements and utensil packets
- LUCY Outreach: Landscaping outdoors, cleaning and organizing indoors, baking goodies for youth participants
- St. Joseph’s Carpenter Society: Landscaping and cleaning up outdoors
- Ronald McDonald House: Planting flowers and landscaping outdoors, cooking breakfast and making treats for house families
- Joseph’s House: landscaping, organizing the donation closet, serving lunch to guests
- Heart of Camden: cleaning out and doing demolition work to get a house ready for a new family
- NJ Tree Foundation: helping to plant 20 trees
- Holy Name School: spring cleaning, gardening, helping with caps gowns for graduation

Asked to describe their experience in one word, volunteers chose words like uplifting, gratifying, fulfilling, and enjoyable. For many, the highlight was learning about the work of the nonprofit they served and joining with others to be part of the mission.
